to introduce a much larger quantity of small
material than is desirable, which is readily
disturbed by sea action and, by attrition, tends
to,wear down the larger material and to reduce
the size of the smaller stuff, thereby necessi-
tating more extensive maintenance than would
otherwise be required.
In the case of the Longkoktaui Break-
water it is also of course most essential, that
small material when acted upon by the sea, should
not by abrasion damage the concrete pitching
which forms the outer coating of the upper portion
of the work.

Director of works, care will be taken that by the
admission of the smaller stone the approximate
quantity of the larger and heavier classes of
material will not be reduced to any extent which
will prejudice the stability of the structure.

Having regard to the foregoing the matter
is quite in order, in view of His Excellency the
Governor having sanctioned the adoption of the
proposal above referred to.
